Labor’s Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2023 is a direct attack on freedom of speech.

With the government taking aim at free speech and threatening the very foundations of our democracy, it’s vital that we stand against this bill. We must fight to protect our fundamental right to express ourselves.

There is a major problem with this bill and it is far more than just a slippery slope for our civil liberties. It is highly subjective in its definition of what constitutes ‘misinformation’ – in fact, ‘misinformation’ will mean whatever the government wants it to mean. That’s why it is being called ‘Orwellian’ with references to ‘The Ministry of Truth’ which featured in the novel ‘1984’ by George Orwell.

The information censorship being sought by this bill could easily include legitimate criticisms of the government, questions about the science underpinning climate change ideology, questions about high immigration, questions about gender dysphoria, and the ‘no’ campaign against the voice to Parliament. When the ‘truth’ becomes a subjective tool for the government of the day, you have to ask, who will be fact-checking the fact-checkers?

Fight Labor’s War on Freedom of Speech.

Freedom of Speech is an essential human right and the fundamental principle of Australian democracy.

Labor’s Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2023 is a direct attack on freedom of Speech.

This legislation targets everyday Australians, independent media and non-government political parties while carving out protections for government, mainstream Big Brother media and approved organizations.

It would give the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) draconian powers to silence critics of the government and impose fines up to $6.8 million on social media platforms if, in ACMA’s opinion, they have not done enough to prevent the dissemination of what ACMA considers to be misinformation or disinformation.

The big problem with this bill is its highly subjective definition of what constitutes misinformation. Basically, misinformation will mean whatever the government wants it to mean. This could easily include legitimate criticisms of the government. Questions about the so-called science underpinning climate change ideology, questions about high immigration, questions about gender dysphoria, and statements for the No campaign against the voice to Parliament.

Don’t believe for a second the senior Liberal-Nationals Coalition figures opposing Labor’s bill, because when they were in government the coalition proposed very similar legislation just before the last election. The major party’s hidden agenda is the protection of their two-party system. They’ve watched votes leaked to minor parties and independents over the years and they’re desperate to close down our communication efforts.

If this bill is passed, you could even be saying goodbye to the Please Explain cartoon series.

We must take a stand for freedom of speech, we must fight for it. As Thomas Jefferson said, the tree of liberty must be watered from time to time. Freedom requires constant vigilance.

Making sure that hard won individual freedoms endure in our society requires constant vigilance.

You can help defend freedom of speech in Australia by putting your name to One Nation’s petition against Labor’s anti free speech censorship bill.

We urge you to sign our petition and make this the biggest in Australia’s history, this issue is that serious.

Yet it goes well beyond that. We’re gathering One Nation members of Parliament and esteemed independent speakers from around Australia for a conference in Brisbane on August 26th. More details are to come.

We’re energized and ready to take this to the Liberal-Labor Uni-Party.

Let’s help Pauline Hanson’s One Nation protect the most important of individual human rights.

We must protect our freedom of speech. Why are MPs exempt from this proposed legislation and why are bureaucrats able to decide what is misinformation and disinformation? It must be defeated in parliament for the sake of democracy.

If Labour does this it is moving toward a communist regime. This not we as Australians wanted from our government.
The ideas of a handful of people are destroying our country and the Australian way of life.

Freedom of speech is fundamental for a democratic society. Without it, we are a communist dictatorship.

  10. Col
    Col says:

    Dear Malcolm,

Free speech does not come without responsibilities.

    Firstly TRUTH
If there are any errors in what a person proposes then the errors must be openly corrected or withdrawn as soon as possible.

    Secondly TO CAUSE NO OFFENCE
The comments must be polite and dignified without degrading to abuse, defamation, ridicule or slurs.

After reading (as advised in your transcript), Labor’s,

Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2023

I am of the opinion the proposed bill is nowhere near as “draconian” as you claim nor “is a direct attack on freedom of speech”.

    In the document
Misinformation could be defined as errors due to mistake.
Disinformation could be defined as knowing and deliberate attempts to mislead the public.

Freedom of speech is not under the threat you insinuate.
Rather the opposite where polite, accurate and civilised communication is to be encouraged.

On reading, for several months, the one nation output on this website one cannot help but be appalled by the level of rancour and misleading information present.
Successful passing of the proposed legislation would, thankfully, place a limit on future abusive and misleading content.

The ACMA will be the main decision making body on speech content.

No wonder some people appear upset.
Imagine the ACMA calling a “sovereign citizen” to task for inappropriate speech.

    Enough for the moment,
    Cheers,
    Col

  11. Joy Gaskin
    Joy Gaskin says:

I’m wondering why the inappropriate sexual and trafficking sites are not being addressed in this legislation, surely we are not just talking about being polite?

    Isaac says:

    1
    Electricity
High electricity and water prices have got nothing to do with global warming or climate change. It is all
about money and control of Australia by the UN. It seems the UN are paying our MP’s (politicians) to
do what the UN wants them to do. .
The UN is saying we should be using Solar and Wind to produce electricity but with manufacturing and
using CNC lathes or even large electric motors, this is not practical. For example, CNC lathes use a lot
of electricity in very short bursts. The motors will burn out after a while and, this will not be picked up
for some time unless the owners are a wake up to what is happening. The electricity has to be changed
to AC and 3 phase. The power may go up to 50 – 100 amps which is ok but there is a very short call for
much higher power when the motor first starts up and that power is not there and this is what burns the
motor out after a while. This type of trouble will not be picked up for some time but it is there and it
will stop manufacturing and that is not good. You see the UN wants to take full control of Australia.
In our Constitution section 100 is about what God gives us free namely water, ran, air (with) and the
Sun. The UN seems to be claiming they are God and so the UN wants to be paid for water, ran, air
    (with) and the Sun.
    a) The wind turbines use wind,
    b) The solar panels use the Sun,
    c) Water that is called Hydro,
Then our Government calls a, b, c above Green Power.
Green Power is another charge that is an additional charge rate on top of your standard Electricity
consumption plus water charges this is illegal see section 100. of the Australia Constitution.
Section.100. Of the Constitution: The Commonwealth shall not, by any law or regulation of
trade or commerce, abridge the right of a State or of the residents therein to the reasonable use
of the waters of rivers for conservation or irrigation.
Section 100 of the Australia Constitution uses the words “conservation or irrigation” that means water,
rain, (wind) and the Sun. This is a lot of extra costs that should not be there; it is in complete disregard
    of our Constitution.
    s.109. Inconsistency of laws
When a law of a State is inconsistent with a law of the Commonwealth, the latter shall
prevail, and the former shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be invalid.
There would not be inflation if the Banks complied with the Australian Constitution. Inflation
is caused by the Banks creating credit out of thin air. That is what inflation is, creating credit just for
    the Banks by the Banks.
Sections.120. Constitution Custody of offenders against laws of the Commonwealth
Every State shall make provision for the detention in its prisons of persons accused or
convicted of offences against the laws of the Commonwealth, and for the punishment of persons
convicted of such offences, and the Parliament of the Commonwealth may make laws to give
    effect to this provision.2
    Electricity
That means the ones that are responsible for charging for water, rain, (wind) and the Sun should be sent
    to jail.
Then in section 44 of the Constitution.
    44. Disqualification
    Any person who:
    1. is under any acknowledgment of allegiance, obedience, or adherence to a foreign power, or is a
    subject or a citizen or entitled to the rights or privileges of a subject or a citizen of a foreign power;
Under sections 44, 51.23a, 100, 109 and 120 the member of parliament should be removed from
parliament and could or should be sent to jail.
If our Government had complied with section 51.23a, there would not have had the problems with
    COVID 19.
Under section 44 our politicians are working for a foreign power, the foreign power is the UN (United
Nations). Look at the water laws of States and Federal Governments and they all run foul of the
    Australia Constitution.
Reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere would destroy everything on Earth. This is
a very very serious matter and must be looked into it properly by the proper authorities.
    https://www.quora.com/Why-is-carbon-important-to-living-things?no_redirect=1
We vote in Politicians to run the country for the Australian people not to run the country for
some other group like the UN. I feel this is treason, so why can’t the proper authorities see if
Sections 44, 51.23a, 100, 109 and 120 of the Australia Constitution apples here and take that action.
The wind turbines use wind and wind is not there all the time so using wind to generate electricity is
unreliable and that is the same for solar panels. This will put a stop to manufacturing and that is just
what the UN wants to do so as we cannot defend ourselves.
Ignoring the Constitution is a very very serious matter.
The ones that are involved in putting up wind turbines do not care about wildlife only money and more
    money.
Under section 73 of the Australia Constitution the High Court is given Appellate Jurisdiction that has
been interpreted to mean you must not be tried unfairly, this is very impotent. With the new laws we
have now they are far too long and go round and round and you are tried unfairly that is very bad.
