Yep I had to leave the sunny coast which is my home born in Brisbane raised on the sunny coast now I am living in nsw with my daughter and 4 kids I can't afford to rent a place for myself being on the disability pension the rents a far to high I never imagined this is where my life would be at 52 if it wasn't for my daughter I would be one of them homeless people on the sunny coast right now

Not just sunny coast, most Fraser coast residents can’t even get a rental because rents are so high, I’ve got friends that have been trying for 2 yrs and still nothing, but I noticed the immigration ones get rentals straight away over local people.

It is disgraceful that Albo imported at least 1.5 million (who all have government funding) and is allowing 38000 visa overstayers, taking up housing. Leaving the low-income and pensioners to struggle to find or afford housing. Not a good look for a once-prosperous and self-sufficient country.

How can councils & state govt ignore the problem.?

i know some churches operate what is called winter shelter which allows homeless people to sleep in church buildings overnight, but there are rules obviously. And it is on a rotation basis, I am part of a group that makes packs for homeless ladies and we collect toiletries and personal care items and deliver to one of the local soup kitchens who hand them out to ladies in need. It is often older ladies that are being evicted from rental properties due to rent hikes and sometimes from domestic violence or marriage breakdowns. Many of these people have worked and paid there way, some do not get govt assistance especially if it is a domestic violence issue and do not want to involve family members as they do not want them to become targets, so they sleep in cars etc. Meanwhile we see new people coming to our cities and they have houses modern cars and seem to be jobless as they can gather in parks everyday. Something does not add up that our own people get the rough end of the stick.
