On my walks with the dog I've seen almost every house that's come on the market sold to foreign owners. We went back through the houses we were out bid on and over 80 percent were up for rent, which was interesting given you would have to put in half the value of the sale just to have the rent just make the mortgage, unless it's interest only and they speculate the property value going up substantially.

I was watching a program on tv in the uk were Miriam was traveling around Australia in a camper van she went to visit a cattle farm called the emu farm near Darwin an aboriginal man called frank owns it now being passed down from his father , he had bought the land in the 50/60 frank was so proud of his land and his history. And Miriam said it’s the lucky country . He said is it !! I don’t think so not now Australia is selling off all its land to China Australians won’t own much soon It was pointent to me !! Here I am in the uk looking after my mother desperately wanting to come home to my beautiful country ( I emigrated years ago ) thinking the same thing has I was watching the tv I’m very lucky living in such a beautiful place and country Then it took a lovely guy one of our First Nation people to say hey!!! The real estate agent last sat told me most are bought by imagrants than Australians at a home inspection

What are the financial benefits given to immigrants that make it so attractive to come here? There needs to be transparency …. ask any questions and it becomes a matter of ‘privacy’, but it seems that new cars are supplied, no electricity bills, a couple of years before passing a driving test, housing, etc etc make it very attractive. Yet our younger generation gets absolutely no help to buy a home, with prices deliberately inflated as local and state governments benefit through rates and taxes, and control government valuations, and the real estate industry gets very easy money.

Because young people want to live in a city, blow all their money on coffee, Uber eats, the latest smart watch and mobile phone, travel overseas, have a McMansion for their first home, get covered in tattoos which cost thousands, buy the latest ford ranger and put a lift kit, big tire’s and every accessory they can buy for said vehicle so they look the part, subscribe to Netflix, Stan,Disney Spotify and everything else. Now Senator Malcolm Roberts, tell me why people can’t really afford a home?

Well there's a light bulb moment. Unfortunately the the rich own the politicians and they are the gatekeepers of sensible decisions.

'Tax affordability' might be the other problem. While land tax is designed to discourage multiple ownership of houses available for the rental market. Land tax indirectly drives up the cost of rent and therefore also property values. The effects of excessive taxation spill into housing (stamp duty, capital gains). Government subsidies for housing also increase the costs. The government should remove itself from the housing market. Meanwhile, the 'government corporation' grows steadily in size. And the people are feeling it.

That's' a bloody good question . . . . .one we've been asking for a long time. Why do foreigners own so much of this country with absolutely no other intention but to make a profit? Property and infrastructure should be owned by Australian residents only!!

The reality is that it would be an unpopular move. If you stop businesses, superannuation funds and non citizens owning property the values would drop to half the current prices, which would put many people underwater on their mortgages. No government has the intestinal fortitude to do this..
