Why didn't every soldier in those situations as Gen Campbell also get a gong for being there, Afghanistan was a war zone, everyone of merit, but not so only those in arrears it seems.

As a tradie, we had this discussion around a BBQ 15 plus years ago and the general consensus was that not everyone needs to go to UNI.

I certainly would not go to university knowing what i know now.

Not just the salaries, the demand for the qualification! Some have no demand!

Is there any data showing the transition from being a student to entering the workforce from the qualifications gained? What is the pass rate? What is the successful transition rate? Universities are not the only education system ripping off Australians for little results. One excuse is: it's government approved. A flimsy ignorant response when taking thousands from a single person who isn't getting a job for the thousands paid.

Clear out the rot and end international students as well!

More money into on job traineeships and apprenticeships. As a tradesman I worked with so many university graduates that have never worked in their field of study but are now doing an apprenticeship to become a tradesman and pay off their hecs debt. I’d say almost 50% of them. 🤷‍♂️

Most of the degrees could be online, with some like accounting/finance run by relevant professional societies that already run the professional exams.

Perhaps you could also look at course content. Many of the subjects are absolute rubbish, created by people with no real world experience, no concept of the type of problems graduate will actually encounter, all the while convincing the naive students that they know what they are talking about. Course content needs to be reviewed and restructured by people working within industries. The current end result of a university education is that graduates need to be taught from scratch when they are hired.

The University of NSW made $1.4 billion from student fees last year ( allegedly ) The fact is HECS fees are paid by the FEDS via taxes ( your taxes and my taxes ) to the universities then the student is on the hook to the feds until the education debt is cleared. Meanwhile, tertiary institutions are laughing all the way to the bank. Who said money doesn't make the world go around

Well done senator. One of the first post i agree with. University or TAFE and Apprenticeship paths must be free. Every world index shows that the higher the population average education is in a Country . The lower the crime rate , poverty rate and well being indexes.

Then there’s the poorly thought out One Notion policy on reducing/stopping overseas students. These students support the relatively low cost of degrees for Australians…of course, it means that costs for Australians will need to increase. So in a nutshell…One Notion wants to reduce the cost of degrees to Australians but at the same time, stop foreign students, which will probably increase the cost of degrees to Australians. It’s no wonder people think that One Notion doesn’t know what they are doing. 😂🤦‍♂️🤡

These Institutions will fail anyone who they determine is a free thinker and anyway Anti- Establishment. It’s like the Business world. Only the ‘ Yes Men/ Women ‘ rise through the ranks. These are the people who are easily controlled and manipulated. I blame the parents of the students. As in many cases the parents pressure their children to get the required grades in the HSC. Then go on to obtain any old useless degree. Now there are worthwhile degrees. But not that many.

Of course, university attendance is worthless. Just like you Roberts, you can know everything there is to know about science and medicine - just by watching youtube for 5 minutes. I mean - what do doctors who study for 15 years know compared to that?
