Well, we all now know how senior commanders get their prestige gongs! In then Major General Angus John CAMPBELL’s case (the former CDF), the nominating officer (then Rear Admiral David Lance JOHNSTON, the current CDF) said: “ … the nomination was provided to me my role as the Deputy Chief of Joint Operations at the time… ” . “The definition of 'in action' that I applied is consistent with that which had been standing for some time, as to commanders—and certainly in General Campbell's case, I believe, he spent more than 100 days in Afghanistan, as part of his command role, in an area that was classified as a warlike zone” . This suggests the actual nomination was prepared for him by someone else, a Warrant Officer Second Class, perhaps? (Check Defence FOI 544-22-23 - Why was service distinguished for confirmation of this!) It seems 100 day was very important, too. Check Defence FOI 543-22-23 - Visits to Afghanistan for precise details but it was 112 days, mostly 2-4 day visits but at the time JOHNSTON signed the nomination, CAMPBELL only had 75 days and didn’t reach 100 days until his second last visit! It is obvious that these senior officers were feathering their own nest by handing out this award. I find stolen valour agressious if that award were claimed by anyone who has not earned it.Angus Campbell pushed his own soldiers under the bus when the inquiry into war crimes by our special forces.Although he was the officer ultimately in charge he washed his own hands of any responsibility

Why didn't every soldier in those situations as Gen Campbell also get a gong for being there, Afghanistan was a war zone, everyone of merit, but not so only those in arrears it seems.

Awarded for Distinguished command and leadership in warlike operations. His service record would show.

They are just lousy crooks, nominating each other and rewarding themselves, while real heroes are dying or coming home with injuries both physical and mental. Where are their medals? It makes me sick.

Campbell was nothing but an REMF (Rear echelon Mother F!@#$%). He didn't earn a combat medal. As commander during the Iraq war and under the rules of war HE is responsible for the actions of those under his command. Whether or not he knew it was happening.

How many former officers are on here supporting the rot at the top ?? Take a long hard look at your selves. Or is this a culture of corruption that is considered the norm by rank ??
