I have experienced 7 blackouts already this year – admittedly the first one was “planned” though why the heck you would plan a blackout on 9th January versus any other day of the year is a bit beyond me – apparently it was for “essential maintenance”. Translation for essential maintenance to my mind is most likely crippling further whatever long standing hitherto reliable infrastructure is left because since then I have had 6 unplanned blackouts all of them but one occurring during peak load periods (between 3.00 PM and 6.00 PM). The other was in the middle of a hot and humid night.
It has got so bad I am tossing up giving up my NBN connection and just going for a mobile internet connection. This had me thinking – if and when people have so many blackouts that their internet becomes useless, what will become of the NBN which “lives” only because of a perfectly reliable power supply (as do trains for that matter).
Anyway, I just thought I should add a reality based datapoint. The blackouts are not a conspiracy theory and they are already happening right now.

It all started with Keating wanting to privatise everything. The LNP kept it going.
Neither of them understand the energy industry nor markets.
The design of the NEM is flawed. Constrained supply markets do not work well on inelastic products.
The NEM gives no incentive for any generator to have excess capacity, they make money when the supply is so tight blackouts are happening.
We went from a good system 30 years ago to an unplanned mess.
Graham O'KEEFFE says:
In this day and age we should have Micro Nuclear Plants Australia wide supplying reliable base load power along with Coal Fired Power Stations that are 96% efficient and don’t polute like these twats claim they do as most of the byproducts are reclaimed along with the waste heat. To hell with this stupid and unreliable so call renewables crap. Solar that only produces while the sun shines and Windmills that only produce while the wind blows and are high maintenance due to the Gelcoat being sandblasted off on the Blades by the Atmospheric Dust. The Blades are Fibreglass and Resin and give off toxic smoke when they catch fire.

This bird doesn’t fly for Australians.
We’ve never had cheaper power than when the state government owned the power stations and County Councils delivered the electricity and levied the charges or when the city installed the infrastructure and resold the gas.
A CO2 tax, to save the planet, based on a thoroughly debunked and fraudulent theory merely increases the cost of everything and the burden/cost of living for all… thousands of who can’t afford to eat properly or heat and cool their homes.
In the hunt for votes and knowing the value of a captured media the LNP has jumped on the fraudulent band wagon of catastrophic anthropomorphic climate change, leaving no viable opposition… only honest yet lonely voices in the wilderness of government.
